1887 time capsule found inside Robert E. Lee Monument
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Crews operating at a former Robert E. Lee monument in Virginia located what they feel is a time capsule from 1887, according to Brian Dickerson with Dickerson Design.
The copper time capsule was located at 11:41 a.m. and weighs at least 30 pounds, 2 times as much as one more time capsule opened final 7 days, in accordance to Kate Ridgway, State Archaeological Conservator for the Virginia Division of Historic Resources.
Ridgway mentioned the copper time capsule was found in the northeast corner of the statue’s pedestal below the capstone and that it has been sitting in acidic water for a while. They have not however found an inscription on the box.
Gov. Ralph Northam tweeted: “They found it! This is probably the time capsule absolutely everyone was wanting for. Conservators learning it—stay tuned for following ways! (Will not be opened today)”

Time capsule
Ridgeway claimed that the capstone weighed 3,000 pounds and 632 stones have been removed, tagged, and will be preserved. She also mentioned that the governor’s office will coordinate the time capsule’s opening.
